“Motivation? Been There, Done That!”
Let me ask you….have you tried all of the “typical” methods to motivate yourself to stick to your workout or healthy eating routine? The “gold star” method (i.e. you track your workouts on a calendar/fitbit etc., giving yourself a “gold star” for every workout), the “make a workout appointment in my calendar” method, the “find a workout buddy” method? Pause for a second-these certainly all have value and can be effective, so, if you haven’t tried them-pick one and go for it!
But, in case you have “been there and done that” to all of the above, and they haven’t really panned out, here are a few “out of the box” ideas for your consideration:
1) Post it on social and commit to everyone (and more importantly commit to yourself) that you’re going to hit the gym Monday, Wednesday and Friday and ask friends to send a friendly note of encouragement in case you need a little nudge!
2) Start a “collective kitchen”. Like scrapbookers get together to “crop”, have fitness friends get together to try health recipes. Make a large enough batch that you can all take some home. You can have your healthy meals for the week, and spend time with friends. And perhaps after your cooking session, head out for a walk.
3) What about this idea-write what you want, why you want it and how your life will be different once you achieve it. Now, list everyone, including and especially yourself, who will notice and benefit from your success! Post it where you will see it every day!
If the more traditional methods haven’t worked, it isn’t time to throw in the towel. It is time to think of something else to get that towel sweaty!
What’s your favourite motivation strategy?
