The ONE Thing

A Life/Business Coaching idea is our focus this week for Fresh Idea Friday!

Have you read "The ONE Thing" by Gary W. Keller and Jay Papasan?

I've read it a few times, and the idea is simple, effective, AND can be hard to implement.

BUT, I share it today to invite you to consider how you can apply it in your life to help you make BIG progress!

The premise: if you want to be successful, pick ONE thing, and do that. (Ok, that's oversimplified, but, you get the point. It's a great read by the way!).

The reality: Most of us have other components or responsibilities in our lives that complicate this "one thing" idea. As a solopreneur, I would love to spend ALL of my time coaching and building coaching programs, BUT I also need to look at marketing, financial forecasting, networking etc. AND, I have kids, dogs, a house, a husband etc that I also need to (and want to) prioritize.

My take: I apply this idea in two ways.

1) I think of my business as I do an athlete. That is using a periodized program approach, where different components of "training" are of more or less focus at certain times. I pick THE ONE THING for a quarter, and drill down on that, getting that program or project to near automation so it is ready to roll with only minor tweaks needed from me come program time.

2) My ONE THING at any current time gets a full day dedicated to it (that's why I don't see clients on Tuesdays-I am creating!) AND my ONE THING also gets 30 mins of work EVERY day so that the momentum keeps going (and if something goes sideways on a Tuesday, I don't fall too far behind)!

What about you? Have you applied the ONE THING idea to your life?

It is amazing to see how quick progress happens when you are "single-tasking". It's magic!

Keep being awesome everyone,
Deanna
