Let's talk ENERGY management
You know I love talking about time management, AND there's another strategy that I employ that I thought might be useful for some folks here.
I was once in the "8-hour shift" mindset, as many people are, and there's nothing wrong with that!
But, as an entrepreneur, parent, partner, etc. I needed to shift away from this 8-hour shift mindset as it's not possible for my family's set up these last few years.
Working 8 hours straight isn't possible for me, AND HERE'S THE COOLEST PART:
---it's not necessary when you focus on energy management and blend the awareness of your energy with your time management strategies.
For me, my energy is highest in the morning. From about 6 am-11 am, I have a ton of energy and can knock a heck of a lot of "stuff" off of a to-do list.
And then I know from about 1 pm-3 pm, I have another burst of energy in which a lot gets done.
In fact, and here is where the time management piece blends, as an entrepreneur, getting very specific with my priorities and controlling my own calendar is key. I have a list of 5, maybe 6 items each workday, and I can power through much of that when I match it to when I know my energy is highest.
This doesn't mean that I only work 5 hours a day. I still see clients and run workshops etc at other times, but what it does mean is that when my family needs me, I can shift to open gaps of time for them.
And I know from 11 am-1 pm, I am not super creative, or able to focus on a project that requires a lot brain power. So, the dogs and I get a great walk, lunch and a few house chores, and then I can get back to focused work in the afternoon.
And, just because those times work for me, doesn't mean that is right for you!
When are your most energetic times, physically and mentally? Is it possible for you to think about matching your to-dos with your energy through the day, instead of feeling like you have to "put in 8 hours"?
