Feeling Overwhelmed and Uncertain?

For many people, where I am located anyway, this is the week that kids head back to school. Into another year like no other, again, and many people are feeling overwhelmed and uncertain.

Today I’d like to share one quick strategy that has proven so useful for myself and my clients in times like these.

Pull out your calendar or your to-do list, and….this is opposite of what you normally hear me say, but what can you remove from this list, or what can you reschedule in your calendar?

I love that we have high expectations about ourselves and big goals for the things we want to achieve. That’s how we get things done and do amazing work! But remember, the achievement of those big things you’re after, requires you to be your physical and mental best. And to best attend to an area that requires your attention (whether it be your business or your back-to-schooler) we often need to scale back so we can best serve others and care for ourselves.

So, what can you let go, reschedule or do differently in this, or any, hectic time? Maybe:

“Let go of”: household chores this week. The dust will wait until next week. You’ve got more important things to do.

“Reschedule”: extra appointments if you can. Do you really have to have your yearly eye exam this week? Consider rescheduling non-urgent appointments like this to allow you to have the flexibility to deal with whatever arises.

“Do differently”: take the pressure off about meal prep. Honestly, let yourself order in one night if that will help free you up to attend to those that need you, OR to give yourself a little down time.

Finally, review your to-do list and ask yourself…..what is “busy-work” vs what will actually move the needle forward on your goals. E.g. re-organizing your emails into folders is really just busy work, that might be best saved for sometime that isn’t so busy. Whereas, sending out those emails to follow up with potential clients, that will move you closer to growing your business.

Remember, you’ve moved successfully through times like this before and you will again.

You’ve got this!
