Wellness as a Tool for Success

What motivates you to attend to your wellness? Often, unfortunately, it is when we are ill that we begin to think about our wellness. So, let’s begin to think about how we can change that.

My mission is to get people to become more proactive at prioritizing their health and wellness, creating routines, habits, and then lifestyle where wellness is as much a part of your day as brushing your teeth.

I work closely with women over 40 AND entrepreneurs, helping them do just this. Why? Well, I have been/am there! Throughout all stages of my life, I have felt my dedication to wellness strengthen AND fade at different times, even though I work in this field daily.

As such, I knew if it was happening to me, that is, letting my wellness slide as a priority, even with all of the tools literally at my door, I knew others must be struggling too.

In the last two years, I’ve unleashed my entrepreneurial side, which I always thought was present, but I was keeping it locked up tight for a number of reasons. And now unleashed, I am loving it! Why? Because I can serve on such a higher, grander scale, helping more people with their wellness.

And as my entrepreneurial journey began, guess what happened? Yep, my wellness took a back seat again. No, check that. It was in the trunk! And why? Because I was telling myself an “either-or” story. EITHER I could focus on my business OR I could support my kids in their time of need during this pandemic.

How did I move through that? Coaching. In one coaching session, I stated something just like the above phrase to my coach, and gently (there was a lot of emotion bubbling up for me during that call) he said “is that actually true?” “You can only do one of those things in your day?” Well, of course that isn’t true, BUT that is what I had been telling myself. No wonder I felt so torn between all things and completely overwhelmed.

Again, I believe we are delivered lessons in life so we can help others. So, here I am! Blessed to be working with entrepreneurs, coaching on how to prioritize all areas of wellness (which almost always translates into more business success!). And connecting with women who have had, often a very toxic relationship with fitness (see last week’s blog article) and have lost their own identity through fulfilling some of the other roles which life offers.

If any of this resonates with you, I’d like to share with you, 4 steps that I take my clients through to help them move wellness to the top of their priority list.

Just before I do that, I’ll remind you that when I am chatting about wellness, this doesn’t mean fitness. The framework of wellness that I use includes 6 areas of wellness; emotional, physical, relationship, financial, professional, and spiritual. Why all of these areas? Simple. Because we need to be functioning well in all areas for optimum growth, success, and true wellness.

4 steps to thriving:

1) Get Real: Look at this with interest and not self-judgment, and ask yourself, what are you actually prioritizing? Are you actually wasting time you could be dedicating to wellness?

2) Assess: Using the 6 areas of wellness mentioned above, how are you doing in each area?

3) Set Goals: Set goals in the area of wellness you wish to focus on. And use a strengths-based approach here, meaning, there are areas you’re really good at, yes? What routines, habits, tools, and strategies do you use to be successful in these areas? And can you apply any of those to help you with your goals in other areas?

4) Implement: A lot of folks have trouble here. So, this is broken into 3 steps: a) set weekly/monthly/quarterly/yearly goals (my entrepreneurs love this step!); b) effectively use your calendar, and c) make sure you have built-in accountability (I send my 6 areas of wellness goals to my coach weekly).

You matter so much more than the hits on your website, the to-dos list of the PTA committee, or how organized your house is. AND in fact, the more we get a handle on our wellness, the more we can attend to and have these other areas thrive as well.

Reach out if I can be of help with any of these steps. Always feel free to book a free call here: https://www.deannalangfordcoaching.com/booking

Stay well and stay safe,
Deanna
