Raw and Real…..My Lessons from 2020

As all personal and business plans for 2021 are being solidified, I’ve been reflecting on this past year a lot this last week. 2020 has been the hardest year I’ve experienced AND the most amazing year I’ve experienced.

The hardest of course is the running of a small business in a COVID land space. A small business that launched only a few short months before COVID hit. If you’re a business owner, you get it. And the other “hardest part” is not fully my story to tell, so maybe we will share one day, when we’re all ready.

Now the with the hardest part acknowledged, let’s get in to the most important part. The lessons that 2020 has taught. I began to think about these “lessons from 2020” while I was listening to a webinar last week from the founder of the coaching community I am a part of, Healthy, Wealthy and Wise’s Derrick Sweet. As I listened, I was amazed and grateful to have my list of lessons grow and grow and grow. And to reflect on how many positives I was listing.

My takeaways:

-celebrate the small wins in business and in life. Two years ago, I would have laughed at the small things I now acknowledge and celebrate each day……..two years ago I was nowhere near as resilient, confident, grateful and strong as I am now.

-let the small sh** go. There are so many things I once worried about that didn’t and don’t deserve an ounce of attention. They simply don’t matter. People bickering on social media about who is right and who is wrong about politics and vaccinations. What the hell?……was anyone’s mind ever changed by reading the comments on social media? Fight for what you believe in, but honestly here, save your energy and find a more effective way…..and if you have enough time and energy to troll people’s comments, go and volunteer for an organization that is doing some good in this world.

-family (and I count my close friends in here) are all that really matter.

-we can feel and experience two things at once. E.g. this being the hardest AND most awesome year, all at the same time-and it is ok to celebrate the awesome when things are hard. It doesn’t mean you’re ignoring the hard things…..it means you’re setting yourself up to be better prepared to deal with the dark by sitting in gratitude with the awesome.

-decide on what you want to live like, show up like, be like, and find people that are already doing that. If you want to think bigger, do more, impact more, serve more, surround yourself with others that are a few steps ahead of you. And, even though some may feel that this is a sales pitch, its not (see my next point**), I am honestly not sure how I would have made it through this past year without my Healthy, Wealthy and Wise coach and community. On those days of feeling low and stuck and wondering how the heck to move forward, there was always a webinar to support me, a kind comment from a fellow coach, or a coaching call to help me move forward even when things were so very hard.

-**Oh and that’s another take away for the folks that give me the “sales pitch” feedback-I don’t give a hoot about people that think negative things about me….I know I am doing my best to make this world a better place. I’d like to ask the haters if they can say the same.

-Dogs are awesome…..and puppies are a lot of work :), but worth every bit of it!

Friends, as 2020 draws to a close, I invite you remember that just because the calendar changes to 2021 shortly, doesn’t mean that magically things will change for your situation. Dreams and goals don’t work unless you do. Get moving on what you really want, and reach out if you’d like my help to get you there.

I wish you health, success and happiness,

Deanna
