Is your Learning Stopping your Growth?
That’s an interesting question, isn’t it? If we are learning, then shouldn’t that mean we’re growing?
Maybe, but maybe not. During this quarantine and this new virtual world, I have seen an explosion of learning opportunities, which is awesome. BUT I have also seen another pattern emerge. People signing up for webinar after webinar, because it’s there and it’s free (or maybe it’s even paid?!) and attending these learning opportunities faithfully. I am 100% for learning new skills and abilities, absolutely. BUT, let me ask you: What are you doing with this new knowledge? Is it moving you towards your goals? Or, is it taking away precious time that could be spent working towards your goals?
Or, even more concerning, are we hiding behind these learning opportunities because we are too scared to take action on what we really want?
And how do we tell the difference?
Well, to begin, let’s answer this question: “Do you have a clearly defined goal?” That is, do you know what you want to do? And what you are after? If you’re not sure where you are heading, how can you know what steps to take and when you’ve arrived at your “destination”? So, step one, define what you want.
Next, analyze if you’ve put this learning in to action. If yes, that is, you’ve applied it in some way to your current roles or to the things that you’re working towards, then likely this learning is a good fit. If not, and it has now become another notebook on your shelf, I would question whether that was really worth the time (and money?) spent.
Finally, if the content of your learning does fit your roles and goals, AND you haven’t yet taken action, that is worth a second look. Why haven’t you put it into play? Are you unclear about the content? In need of more information? Are you scared to put it into play because of what someone might say?
Your time is so precious as are the gifts and abilities that you have. I encourage you to spend your resources on what is going to move you towards what you’re after, allowing you to serve in the way that you desire.
Reach out if I can be of help in answering any of the above.
Have a lovely day everyone.
In kindness and good health,
Deanna
