Not Feeling Your Workout??
Not feeling your workout? You were jazzed and motivated, and now you're feeling, "blech" (yes that's a scientific term đ).
I'd seen someone I follow on Instagram mention they're feeling this way today, and it sparked the thoughts of
-how many other folks might be at this point right now with their workout programs
-how we shame ourselves in moments like this (not that this was the case for the person I reached out to today, BUT it is the case for many other folks Iâve connected with).
SOOOOOOO, here are some suggestions from 25+ years helping people with their health, wellness, and fitness, intersected with life/wellness coaching:
1) Look at the feelings you're having with interest and not judgment. Before you shame yourself because âhere I am again, bored with my workout and feeling like I am going to failâ, recognize what is actually going on. Do you know what is likely happening? Likely it is because youâve been working hard at your program, and your body has adapted to the stresses youâve put on it. That means youâve improved your fitness level! Your hard work is paying off! Youâre not failing! Quite the opposite.
2) Try something new. Some new exercises perhaps. A whole new workout program maybe. A different activity altogether. Something that is still fitness/movement-based but is different and fun!
3) Plan an active rest week. Do you or does your trainer plan in active rest? Depending on the intensity of your program, a week of rest might be just what the trainer ordered. And note, weâre looking at active rest, not âlay on the couch restâ. So, plan some extra walks or hikes. Or try some gentle yoga classes. Something that decreases the intensity AND keeps your body moving.
4) Remember your âWhyâ. Why is it so important that you work out? Your physical health? Your mental health? Time with your partner?
Keep moving friends, in whatever way your body and mind need today!
