I Almost Missed It!

On September 23, 2019, and then more officially with my website going live on October 3, 2019, I launched my business, Deanna Langford Coaching. Those dates just passed…..and I almost missed them.

Why? Those seeds I planted years five years ago, and in reality, much longer than that, since I have been in this field for nearly 30 years now, have been GROWING!

Business is busy, and I am so grateful. And, with a both-and mindset, I am BOTH grateful AND have been a bit overwhelmed these last 8 weeks. So this past weekend, my body told me, in no uncertain terms, it was time to rest and reflect (funny how rest is sometimes forced upon us when we aren’t resting as we should!).

What I have learned/been reminded of these last five years while embarking on this journey and in case you’re starting a new journey:

-it’s going to be different, more difficult, and more rewarding than you can imagine,

-we’re stronger and more resilient than we give ourselves credit for,

-no one does this alone. Network and make connections. Ask for and accept help.

-you must take action, plant seeds AND allow time for growth….this is a long game and it WILL NOT just fall in your lap. You’ve got to BOTH take action AND be patient.

-my time management tools and processes developed over these last decades continue to be effective for my client and myself alike!

What’s changed for my business and I:

While I am delighted to continue to support folks with personal training, fitness classes, and life and wellness coaching, I’m also experiencing an increased sense of urgency to get people moving. We are more deconditioned than we’ve ever been and our health care system is crumbling. Movement is medicine and preventative medicine at that.

Along with that, is a feeling of responsibility to help rebuild this field that was so devasted by COVID. I have long trained and certified fitness professionals, and having planted those leadership seeds long ago, more post-secondary teaching opportunities have expanded and grown. I am honored to be teaching the Kinesiology and Health Promotion students at Sheridan College (a five-year anniversary there this Fall too!), as well as supporting their degree and post-grad certificate students in the community field placements. I am also delighted to have joined the faculty of the Health, Wellness, and Fitness program at Mohawk College this year, where I get to teach students who are making a difference in the Hamilton community.

What’s next for Deanna Langford Coaching?

Continuing the path above, AND zeroing in on helping people get and keep moving. 2025 will begin with a new workshop that is a blend of fitness, health, time management skills, and behaviour change tools, to support folks to keep moving and goal-getting all year long.

And finally, a massive thank you to you all for each and every way you have supported my business these last years. I couldn’t have done it without you.

As always, cheering you on to get moving in whatever way your body allows,

Deanna
