Are You Also Managing Your Energy?

When you ask yourself “How to better manage my time?” do you also ask “How to better manage my energy?” And even one step further, have you ever asked yourself “How can I manage my time according to my energy?”

When planning out a calendar or a schedule, it is often the hours that are considered, without thought of what we typically feel like during the hours being considered. We look at a window of time from let’s say 1 pm-3 pm and then slot in tasks that we assume will fit in that time frame.

But here is where things might go sideways. You have a 2-hour window and have 2 hours of content writing to do. The math adds up, but did you think about what your energy and concentration are like during that specific window of time? If you’re someone who feels a dip in energy in the afternoon (which many people do), is the brain-taxing task of content writing the best option for that window of time? Maybe something more physical might be better suited, or something that is a bit less thoughtful at least.

Do you know what your natural energy rhythms are? If not, that would be a useful next step. Over the next few days, note what you’re feeling like throughout the day. Look for patterns in your energy as you track over 3-4 days. Also, ensure you mix work days and non-work days into your tracking.

And if you’re in need of more energy (aren’t we all!). Here is a list of natural “energy-givers”:

-sunshine

-movement

-fresh air

-being properly hydrated

-eating enough nutritious food

-sleep!!!

-rest

What are your takeaways here? Do you need to track your energy, or review your calendar to make sure your energy-requiring tasks match your most energetic times? Do you need to work on increasing your energy levels?
