The Pressure of Spiritual Wellness
What is your definition of spiritual wellness? A good old google search seems to touch on as many definitions as there are people, BUT a common theme in the realm of spiritual wellness is finding one’s sense of purpose or their connection to something greater than themselves.
For some folks, this connects easily and deeply, allowing spirituality to be actualized regularly. For others, what they’ve shared with me, is this pressure to “find their purpose” or “live their purpose” is too heavy. It’s almost as if, if they’re just trying to make it from one day to the next, they are somehow not worthy.
Gosh, I agree. That is heavy. Two things are true here friends.
1) You deserve more than “just getting through the day” AND I acknowledge that is a reality for many.
2) To move towards more than “just getting through the day” an important approach ACTUALLY IS living with purpose.
If your purpose is clear. Amazing. Get after it. Get out of your way, and do it! People need it.
BUT if this feels too heavy, perhaps find a middle ground. What can be “today’s” purpose? Or this hour’s purpose? The overwhelm that comes with finding one’s life purpose can be huge. And, we often can’t find our purpose until we’ve done some exploring. Discovering things that aren’t for us is as important as finding what IS for us.
So, break it down. What is today’s purpose? Maybe just getting out of bed and eating is your purpose today. And I acknowledge that THAT can be harder than some of the life purposes we hear about from others. I see you.
Or, if you’re not sure what to choose….how can you serve someone else? Make that this hour’s purpose. Do you have a friend or family member that you haven’t connected with for a while? See someone post a pretty sad post on social? Send them a quick message. We often don’t reach out because we’re not sure what to say.
So, say that:
“Hey friend, I saw your post and thought it seemed sad. Just wanted to say I was thinking about you”. Or “Hey….seems like you might be struggling right now. What does support look like from me? How can I help?”
You never know when a little bit of kindness will make all the difference. And that, for me, is spiritual wellness.
With kindness,
Deanna
