Motivation’s Partner

As a life coach and fitness professional, I am often asked how to find and keep motivation. Well, there are a number of ways that I have shared and some that are in the process of being shared. Like today. I would like to introduce (well re-introduce I am sure) you to a key partner of motivation, accountability.

I am sure, for whatever goal you are after, you have a list of needle movers (i.e. “to-dos”) that continue to move you towards your goal. (If you don’t, this is where you need to start).

And then, the question that follows is, “how do you ensure that those needle movers are taken care of, day after day, to progress you towards what you are after?” The answer to that, I have found with my clients and my own goals is accountability.

As an entrepreneur, I have no “boss” looking over my shoulder, ensuring deadlines are met. Therefore, it is important that I ensure I am accountable in other ways.

Three keys here:

1) I have a coach. Knowing that I have set certain goals and targets in business and that I am going to be checking in monthly is very effective. And, the magic in coaching is that if, no, when, I get stuck with something, I know that I will have someone to help me get unstuck and keep moving forward.

2) My clients. I have an amazing group of clients I am blessed to connect with, for whom, I am the one that helps with progress and “stuckness”. I am honoured that folks allow me to help them on their journey to doing the amazing things they are doing, and the positive difference that they are making in the world.

3) Myself. I have defined my “why” and continue to remind myself of this, day after day. What is my why? See #2. And add to that, running a successful business to support my family and help them move forward in their various goals.

Having goals, and to-dos is definitely a key, but without clarity about follow-up, deadlines and why you’re working so hard, it is easy to fall of track and lose motivation.

So, clarify your “why”, keep in mind those that need you and those you serve, and ask for help and support to keep the ball rolling towards your success.

And one more thing…..we ALL lose motivation sometimes. I invite you to remind yourself to have as much empathy and compassion for yourself as you would for a friend that falls off track. Be kind to yourself and then get back after it!

In kindness, and while nudging you to get after what you want,

Deanna
