Looking for Change?
Are you wishing for change? Perhaps a new job, or an improvement in your fitness level? Or deeper than this, a more calm and patient demeanor? Change can be hard, AND it is possible. You know that, don’t you? You’re not the same person you were a few decades ago, right? Of course not. Life has a way of challenging us, and helping us grow stronger, if you let it, AND if you are willing to do the hard work.
So, are you wishing for change? Well, let’s start there. “Wishing” won’t get us anywhere. Let’s make this more action-oriented.
Start by asking yourself : “what do I want to become”? An active person? A leader? A business owner? Ensure you clearly define this. For example, if you’re working to become an active person, what does that mean to you? To one person it might mean running a marathon while to another, a 10 min walk each day. Make sure you have a clear definition of your success here.
Now, start applying this filter to your decision making: “what would an active person do here?” That is, if you have set your mind to becoming active and you are really tired and would rather hit the couch instead of doing the walk you promised yourself, ask again “what would an active person do here?” And, following that with “who am I becoming?”
You see, once you recognize that you’re growing and becoming a better leader, better parent, more active etc, when you identify yourself in this way, the really hard things become a foregone conclusion, because, of course an active person would do that walk instead of (or before) hitting the couch.
Now, let me be clear. There is NOTHING wrong or broken about the person you are right now. AND (both of these things can be true at the same time) we can always work towards becoming a better version of ourselves.
So, who are you becoming?
With kindness,
Deanna
