Not Sure How to Start Exercising?

After decades of helping people get moving, change their habits, get moving again, build their strength, and tackle all sorts of life goals, here is what I know for certain:

1) change is hard.

2) we all fall off track at some point and have to get started again.

Wondering where to begin when you’re trying to get moving or get moving again?

Here are six questions for you to ponder:

1) What do you want and WHY? Do you want to get stronger to make your job easier? Do you want to improve your heart health to live longer? Do you want to move with more ease and less pain to be able to crawl around and play with your dog? How does your current fitness level affect not only you but those around you?

2) What has worked for you in the past when you have tried to do something new? Success leaves clues and I am sure you have tools that work for you.

3) What didn’t work for you? There are also clues here. If you are a real social butterfly, I’d be willing to bet working out alone in your basement isn’t very motivating for you.

4) What do you like? This is too often overlooked when we’re trying to find a new movement activity. Fitness is not punishment. It should be something you enjoy.

5) What do you need to do? Let’s face it, we are all getting older (if we’re lucky). To live long AND strong, we’ve got to hold onto our muscle. We all need to be lifting, whether that be weights, bands or body weight. If you’re not doing any type of strength training, you need to start. Today.

6) What is the smallest step you can take to get you started? If joining a gym feels too big, then think differently. What feels possible for you?

Which of those questions got you thinking? Which hadn’t you yet considered? What is the smallest step you’re taking in the next day or two to get the ball rolling? I would love to hear so I can cheer you on: deanna@deannalangfordcoaching.com
